About GlenMary

GlenMary is a small holding in a little corner of the Ottawa Valley known by locals as "The Glen". The farmhouse was built in 1897 and is on a small, 3-acre parcel of land, surrounded by larger crop and dairy farms The house is open to guests; it is available for rent to the public, but the main intention is to provide a peaceful place for Catholics to come and pray, get out of the city, and do some manual work. There is a small flock of sheep, laying hens and meat chickens to be added in spring 2024. Garlic and other vegetables and flowers are also grown.

How did GlenMary Get Started?

Looking for more silence and a better milieu for prayer brought me out to this rural property in 2021. The first year was focused on building large gardens and learning about chickens. The second year grew into a small flock of sheep, ducks and more established gardens. Now, in the third year, the retreat house is open for guests and some baby steps have been taken towards selling some handmade products and chickens in the Spring.

How does the Catholic Faith impact GlenMary?

This property is Mary's - totally consecrated to God, through the Immaculata, for the greater glory of God and the salvation of souls. The Catholic land movement and the writings of GK Chesterton have inspired this venture of moving back to the land, doing manual labour and getting back to the basics.
